When I’m slow with an idea, I close my eyes and think of Steinberg. My work is full of influences, but, being a poor draughtsman, the similarities are not visible to the naked eye.

Steinberg was something special. When I was a child someone, perhaps MOMA, had an exhibition of his drawings, and my parents took me (for some reason) and we bought a copy of The Passport, which fascinated me for years afterward.
